The four famous chardham sites in Northern India is an important religious site for Hindus in India to visit. However, each of the sacred places in the circuit has its own significance. Yamunotri located on the Western side of Garhwal Himalayas in the Uttarkashi district of Uttrakhand is popularly known for the Yamuna river. It is the second most sacred river in India, originating from Yamunotri. However, as a part of Hindu mythology, Yamuna river is considered most holy. It is also considered that a holy bath in the Yamuna river is divine and is trusted to cleanse your sins.

The Yamunotri temple situated at 3,293 meters above sea level offers a thrilling experience for trek lovers. It promises a startling experience for devotees with the gushing waters of Yamuna, glaciers, and peaks. The temple located above has a shrine dedicated to the Goddess. What is exciting here, is the hot glaciers present at Yamunotri for trekkers.

For all enthusiastic chardham pilgrims, trekking as high as 3,293 might be enthralling but is also challenging. Hence, en route to the temple you can find two hot glaciers- Surya Kund and Gauri Kund.

Both the glaciers are a pitch stop offering relief to the devotees who dedicatedly climb the enormous mountains. Surya Kund the most significant hot spring near the Yamuna Devi Temple. It provides hot boiling water where the devotees can even boil rice and potato. On the other hand, Gauri Kund provides mild water for devotees. It is more suitable for a bath.

Another quick pitch stop for devotees climbing the gigantic mountain is the Divya Shila. The divine stone near the Surya Kund, is a reddish-brown rock that has to be worshipped before reaching the main deity. The stone is considered sacred and a touch of the stone can liberate your soul spiritually.

The mountain climbing can be an exciting journey for devotees and trekkers planning a trip to Yamunotri chardaam yatra. The best time to visit Yamunotri is between May to November. The temple opens during Akshaya Tritiya (May) and closes on Yama Dwitiya (November).
